Synchro SystemS

I was fascinated for a time by the music of King Sunny Adé, of Nigeria, and still love it - more, in a way, than I even did at the time, since when by chance it shuffles up in a playlist, unexpected, it brings back the sweetness of memory and the joy of the first discovery, as well as the precision, the flinty guitars, and the propulsive flow that I fell in love with the first time I heard it. He had 21 players on stage (I saw him three times), with so many layers and counterpoint that you had to keep shifting your attention to different instruments, and then also back and forth from the whole to the parts. He called his style “Synchro System”.
