‘Animalinside’. Theatrical multi-media performance commissioned by Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University. With actors (including a professional of Chinese opera), dancers, live recitation, projected video and images - and composed music by me. Future engagements are planned for Germany and Zagreb.
In February 2026: I appeared on a videoconference panel of artists; in April 2026 I will moderate another one in a series sponsored by the US Embassy in Uzbekistan. Presented ‘Look Homeward Angel (Seven Variations)’.
September 28, 2025 to present:
Five of my pictures were acquired by the Contemporary Arts Museum of Uzbekistan; currently being shown at the Silk Road University art museum in Samarkand. Installation view:

Stephen has been commissioned about ten times by dance and theater companies for his music compositions. Highlights include:
His opera, ‘Mirak’, commissioned by Johannes Birringer and premiered at Diverse Works in Houston in 1999;
‘Earthen Vessels’, commissioned by Sandra Organ Dance Company and premiered at the Wortham Theater in Houston;
‘Poetry in Motion’, commissioned by Sandra Organ Dance Company and premiered at Zilkha Hall, the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Houston; and
‘Parachute’, commissioned by Johannes Birringer and premiered at what is now the Bayou Music Center in Houston in 1997.
